Update on BC’s Population Q1 2017

The latest quarterly data on BC's population are in; they show a province that continues to grow, albeit at a distinctly average pace. In Q1 2017, BC’s growth rate was roughly on par with that of Canada (Manitoba, of all places, lead the way among provinces), but it was the composition of this growth that was most surprising. Specifically, there were more deaths than births in Q1 for the first time since data were first collected (in 1971)—representing a harbinger of our demographic future.
