Rennie Implements Outreach Program to Provide Heat Relief to Vancouver's Most Vulnerable

With the current heat wave in effect, and many shelters in the city already operating at capacity.
July 7, 2017

Vancouver, BC (July 7, 2017) - With the current heat wave in effect, and many shelters in the city already operating at capacity, some of Vancouver’s most vulnerable people may be at risk. To assist those in need, rennie will be collaborating with The Salvation Army to provide heat relief essentials to residents of the Downtown Eastside, and raising awareness about alternative cooling locations (community centres and libraries) that are available throughout the city.

The initiative will include supplying much-needed provisions such as water, sunscreen, and hats to The Salvation Army Vancouver Harbour Light Centre at 119 East Cordova Street. The rennie team will also be distributing these essentials throughout the neighbourhood, and at the rennie parking lot (located at the rear of 51 East Pender Street), on Friday, July 7, between 11:30 am and 1:30 pm.

“Our community is important to us," says Kris Rennie, President of rennie group.

"We want to ensure we do all that we can to provide assistance to those in need.”

Throughout the summer months, the company will continue to work together with The Salvation Army to provide heat relief efforts to the community. The public is also encouraged to provide assistance to The Salvation Army, where they can.

For more information on how to help, please contact The Salvation Army Vancouver Harbour Light Centre at 604-646-6800.
