Five Great Things About Saanich, BC

Each neighbourhood in Victoria has something different to offer. As Victoria's largest municipality, Saanich, BC boasts a well-established community and offers its residents a wide array of urban and outdoor amenities. We’ve rounded up the top five great things about Saanich:

Trail blazing
No matter your preference, if you’re in the mood to stroll, hike, or cycle, Saanich is intersected with great trails. The popular Galloping Goose is a decommissioned railroad line that serves as a public trail network, eventually tying into The Lochside Trail. Used for both commuting and recreation, these routes run beginning from the Swartz Bay ferry terminal, all the way up past Sooke. A great way to get to where you want to be, while experiencing all of the gorgeous scenery and sights in-between.

Play outside
Mount Douglas Park, Panama Flats, and Elk and Beaver Lake are all perfectly nestled amongst the Saanich city limits. Should you choose to dine al fresco at the lakes, take the dog for a trek up Mount Douglas, or if the winter weather is just right – skate across the Panama Flats, you’re never far away from year-round activities which attract both the young and young at heart.

Take a break
When the time strikes, and you’re ready to escape or indulge, your centralized Saanich location keeps you in close proximity to wherever you want to go. You’re always just minutes away from downtown dining, shopping, and water views while at the same time, always able to get ahead of the traffic if you’re planning to catch a ferry or plane.

A brand new, urban community at uptown shopping centre
The new addition of the Uptown Shopping Centre has poised Saanich for growth. What was once an old strip mall with a small grocer and dated bowling alley is now the brand new Uptown Shopping Centre. Uptown’s massive redevelopment has been over a decade in the making, and now holds over 80 shops, restaurants, banks, and office space. Some of its larger tenants include Walmart, H&M, Forever 21, Best Buy and most recently made headlines for the buzzworthy Whole Foods.

Hit the driving range
Whether you’ve got all the time in the world or just wanting to relax, the beautiful Cedar Hill Golf Course, surrounded by the picturesque Cedar Hill Park, allows you to unwind with a variety of tee times perfectly suited to fit your schedule. Fore! Within its borders, the stunning new homes of the Lyra Residences are perched upon the beautifully developed Christmas Hill, providing a modern perspective and exceptional views of what Saanich has to offer.
